Reading Lab OWl Binder Information
Homework is assigned daily, Monday-Thursdays. Students will record their homework down on their agenda sheets which is located in their O.W.L. Binders. O.W.L. stands for Organized While Learning. This is a system that I use with my students beginning in 1st grade. It is important that students learn to organize their paperwork, important dates and their thoughts. Information on OWL binders will be sent home shortly after school starts.
In the O.W.L. binder you will find many important items such as:
- Agenda- used to record nightly home practice assignments. Each night, students are expected to have to a parent sign their agenda. Your signature is proof that they did the assignment. The agenda is also a great way for us to communicate with each other. Feel free to write me a short note in your child's agenda as I check them at the beginning of Reading Lab.
- A Reading Journal- This journal is kept right in the O.W.L Binder and students can use it to record their notes from class in which to study the reading skills and strategies at home as practice.
- Accelerated Reader Reading Log- students are expected to read 20 minutes a night and fill in their reading logs nightly. A parent signature is required for your child to receive credit for their reading. Reading Logs will be checked during class and will be turned in each Friday.
- Home/School folder- This pocket folder is used for communication between school and home. Any corrected papers or important notices for you can be found in the home pocket, any notes or assignments your child needs to pass in should go in the school pocket.
- A copy of my classroom rules and expectations
- Anything we add to the binder is to remain there the entire school year. We add items regularly so be sure to check often!
